What Happens During a Harvest

When it’s time to harvest trees and deliver them to their buyers, it’s not a simple cut-and-load process. Rather, it takes a careful eye to assess each log and determine whether it will meet the specifications of the buyer. For example, a crooked or especially knotty log won’t make good lumber. It would need to go to the pulp mill instead.

Watch the video below and listen for the different types of products a forest produces. Can you name three possible buyers for a truckload of straight, high-quality logs? What buyer would most likely want lower-quality logs?
